Kalil Diaz – Managing Partner

Kalil founded Amergent Capital from a deep passion to develop his home country of the Dominican Republic. Kalil has experience working as a Structuring Manager for GE Capital, where he focused on growth and acquisition financing for a USD $800M portfolio in the franchise hotel and foodservice chain industry. He worked through a variety of structured deals including debt restructurings for public companies.

Kalil received an MBA from the Yale School of Management and a BCOMM in Supply Chain Management from Concordia University.

William Haper – Associate

William brings to the team a background in corporate finance, having previously worked at Citi's Corporate Banking Team as a Senior Associate at the firm’s Toronto office. He holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.

Edison Sepulveda – Associate

Edison has experience working in risk management for both Ernst & Young Consulting and a leading Dominican bank. He is an MBA candidate at Barna Business School.

Amergent Capital is backed by a diverse mix of ten high caliber partners with deep experience and investment successes across sectors. Seven of them are North American and the remaining three are Dominican. Below is a subset of four of our partners:

Pacific Lake Partners is a Boston-based private equity firm focused on investing in search fund acquired companies. Founding Partners Jim Southern and Coley Andrews hold investments in over 50 search funds and they actively work to create value on the boards of their portfolio companies in a variety of industries and geographies. Jim holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and Coley holds an MBA from Stanford’s GSB.

Trilogy Search Partners (TSP) is a closely-held investment firm that invests in acquisitions of small, profitable companies, sourced primarily through the search fund model. TSP’s roots include the formation and leadership of some of the largest mobile operations in the US. TSP partners with search fund entrepreneurs, providing them with expertise and capital through the process of sourcing, acquiring and operating companies that meet TSP’s criteria.

Thomas Matlack is the Founder of Megunticook Management, where he has led venture investments, such as Art Technology Group, where he invested at a $7.5 million pre-money valuation and exited most of his investors at a $5 billion valuation. He holds an MBA from the Yale School of Management.

Anacapa Partners is a private equity firm focused on investing in lower middle market companies acquired through the search fund business model. Anacapa Partners takes a proactive role with search fund entrepreneurs in all phases of the investment process, including business screening, due diligence, negotiation of deal structure, operating oversight, and exploration of exit strategies. Based in San Mateo, California, Anacapa Partners is managed by Jeff Stevens and Ashley Giesler. Website

Relay Investments is a private equity fund focused on backing talented, young and aspiring entrepreneurs, who plan to acquire a small or medium sized business (SME). The firm was founded by Sandro Mina and Martin Steber who each have over 20 years exposure to the Search Fund model and successfully acquired, operated and sold businesses in the smaller end of the middle market.
